I was asked by a friend of mine the other day what the Best AGP Graphics Card was. I thought about this question for a while and set about researching the available options. He wanted to extend the life of his ageing system rather than go for a complete overhaul. Each to their own I suppose. Personally I would make do and save up to purchase a new Computer. Here is what I found:
This card would handle some old games from around 2003. This particular card is crippled due to its 64 Bit Bus. I think my friend would be throwing his money away buy purchasing this particular card.
This appears to be a hard Video Card to get hold of now. It sports 512MB DDR3 Memory, a 256 Bit memory bus and 320 stream processors. This could also be a good choice if you can get hold of it.
This card would make a good upgrade. The particular Model I saw which was a HIS HD 4670 IceQ Edition 1GB DDR3 Video Card would handle the games he would want to play at lower resolutions. My only concern would be if his CPU is up to the job.
From what I have found so far, despite the 128 Bit memory bus, this card performs on par with the older Radeon 3850. The reason I am going to recommend the Radeon 4670 is due to the fact that it is a newer card and also consumes less power. It is also currently available at a number of retailers.
For a smaller price tag, I could also consider the Radeon 4650. Most features are the same from what I have seen so far. There are a couple of differences however. The core clock speed being one of them. It is 600MHz on the Radeon 4650 as opposed to the 750MHz on the Radeon 4670. Also the memory speeds are different too. The Radeon 4650 has a memory speed of 1300MHz and the Radeon 4670 has a memory speed of 1700MHz.
Which AGP Graphics Cards would you recommend and why?
