I have often asked this question myself. Is it hard to make money with Google Adsense? I think it is, definitely. For one you need large amounts of traffic and you have to keep working at your website for a large amount of time. You also need decent paying ads. Unfortunately that means competing in areas with high competition.
If you are expecting to get rich overnight then Adsense is not going to be your answer. Unless of course you know something I don’t and can succeed with minimal effort and time.
I have been using Adsense for about two years now (when I originally wrote this article in 2012). Perhaps a little longer. I have not got over the payment threshold yet although I have had people click on my ads. I am not expecting to make millions because my website is quite boring and just provides information. My idea behind using Adsense is to cover my hosting costs and that is about it really.
When I first started using Adsense I thought I could make money very quickly and easily with it. However I soon realised that a lot of work would be involved to even get my first click. I persisted off and on with many different websites before deciding on this website.
What have I learned?
I don’t spend a lot time performing Search Engine Optimisation or building back links. Rather I just spend my time producing content in the hope that people might one day find it.
So far this method hasn’t really work save for the few visits I get every now and then. I could spend more time improving my back links etc but I choose not to because it seems like a lot of work when I would rather just be adding content onto my site.
Keep on Working
However if you can work at it and stick with it I can’t see any reason why you cant make a decent income with Adsense. If you can find a high paying niche and outrank your competitors then you could be set. It will just be a lot of working getting there.
For me, I will leave Adsense on my site for now to see how it performs. If my traffic picks up then that will be good but if not then I may consider removing Adsense until I have a decent amount of traffic.
How about you? What is your Adsense experience like?
