One of the questions I recently answered was ‘How do you make an image a Direct Download Link in WordPress?’ and so today I am writing a quick tutorial on how to do this.
It’s not too complicated so let’s get started.
Step 1 – Upload your File
The first thing we need to do is to upload your file somewhere.
This could be to Dropbox or it could be to your own Webhosting. Either way we need to upload your file somewhere and get a link to it. In fact it could be anywhere so long as you can get a link to it!
Step 2 – Get the Link to your File
You should be able to get the link to where your file is stored.
On Dropbox you can find a link quite easily.
For your own Hosting, there are ways you can get the link. If you uploaded by FTP to a folder called Downloads, and your file was called picture.jpg then your link might be http://yourwebsite.com/downloads/picture.jpg.
Step 3 – Edit your Post and Insert your Picture
Upload your Picture in the Normal Way but under the Link To option choose Custom URL. An extra box appears that will allow you to put in the link we got earlier. See Screenshot below for more details: –
Press the Insert into Post Button and you are Done. Preview your Post or Publish it, click the link and you should be able to download your file.
I hope this post has helped you today, if you need anything else please leave a comment!
