This is my review of Nicorette Gum which I was using in 2012 to help me stop smoking. I was a smoker for about 11 years and had tried on several occasions to stop smoking, without success.
In past quitting attempts I have tried the patches and the inhalator previously without success so I thought I would try Nicorette Gum instead.
Which Nicorette Gum did I use?
I started out on the 4mg fresh mint gum for about one month and I used the gum whenever I felt the urge to smoke, which was a lot of times. I dropped down to the 2mg gum and eventually stopped altogether after six months before finding something else to help.
What has not smoking been like using the gum?
It has been hard at times, I have managed to avoid smoking and the gum did help although naturally it didn’t come anywhere close to smoking and getting the nicotine that way.
The gum has stopped me smoking and it did help ease my bad moods which I got when not smoking. Smoking is very addictive and I knew that I would need something to help ease the pain of stopping completely. The gum doesn’t provide the same hit you would get from smoking but it does help to ease the urge to smoke after a short amount of time.
All things said it still takes a large amount of willpower to succeed. For me it was the smell of smoking that got me through. Whilst I still love the smell of a burning cigarette, I hate the smell on your clothes afterwards.
When chewed correctly, the Nicorette gum didn’t have any of the nasty tastes some other people experience. I just chew it until it doesn’t taste like mint then rest the gum between my gums and cheek. I then leave it there for a while and repeat the whole process.
What happened Next?
I eventually moved to electronic cigarettes and then vaping but the flip side is I haven’t touched a real cigarette in a year. I will probably need the gum again at some point…
