Over the Counter Snoring Aids
There are a number of over the counter options available to you which we will take a look at below. You will also find links to further information too if you are interested.
Using a nasal spray may provide a temporary relief from snoring. Typically what happens is the snoring is caused by a blockage of the nasal passages which is usually caused by an increased presence of mucus.
One thing you should remember about nasal sprays is you can actually become addicted to them. So you should only really use them on a temporary basis. If your snoring persists you should look at alternatives to help you stop snoring.
These strips are attached above the bridge of the nose and work by dilating the nasal passages. The thing about nasal strips is you should change them on daily basis, but they are safe for use. There is a possibility that they can fall off during sleep and you may also suffer from skin irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin. This is something to keep in mind.
A throat spray will typically contain some natural snoring remedies. They work by maintaining moisture in the throat, and reducing congestion caused by mucus. A throat spray shouldn’t cause an addiction unlike the nasal sprays we talked about earlier.
Pillows that are specially designed can provide comfort and help prevent snoring. The way an ergonomic pillow works is to adjust the alignment of your head, neck and shoulder. Doing this means your tongue should not fall back into your throat preventing the blockage that leads to you snoring.
A Stop Snoring Mouthpiece or Anti Snoring Mouthpiece works by maintaining proper position of the tongue and soft palate. They work by preventing these from collapsing which causes a blockage. These devices are typically made out of plastic and are usually quite easy to use once you get used to them.
Types of Snoring
When a person is snoring this could well be the sign that something more serious is at play. There are two types of snoring, primary snoring which refers to loud, funny noises made when a person sleeps. The second type of snoring is known as Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and this type of snoring is more dangerous.
A sufferer of Sleep Apnoea will stop breathing many times during the night. Left untreated this can lead to further complications such as heart arrhythmia or pulmonary dysfunction. It is highly recommended you consult with your doctor to rule out Sleep Apnoea as a cause.
