I have sold quite a lot of stuff on eBay, mainly computer hardware as I go through computers like nobody’s business. I thought I would write a list of tips on how to sell items on eBay. There are many more tips than I have written below. If you can think of anymore then please post them in the comments section.
1. Get an eBay Account
Without an eBay account, you aren’t going to be able to sell anything on eBay. However I suspect you figured that one out already.
2. Do your Research
Okay, so you have dug up all your hidden treasures and have decided to sell them. Before you do so however, it would be wise to check how much similar items have sold for. You can do this by performing a search on eBay and then selecting the ‘Show Completed Listings’ option. After all, if you are only going to get a small amount for your item, it might not be worth selling it.
3. Take Good Pictures
A picture paints a thousand words. Make sure that you take good clear pictures of the item you are selling. If there are any marks or damage to the item, ensure you take pictures of this too. After all, it is better to be honest about the product you are selling rather than deal with an unhappy customer later.
4. Write a Good Description
Take the time to describe the item you are selling. It doesn’t have to be war and peace but a good description helps a potential buyer of your item make a decision to purchase.
5. Set a Good Title for your Listing
Put yourself in the shoes of a potential customer. If you were looking for the item you are selling, what keywords would you use to find it? Put in a Title that will allow your item to be found.
6. Set reasonable shipping prices
If you set the shipping cost of your item to high, the chances are that potential customers will walk away. Set a price that is reasonable.
7. Stuck for ideas on what to put in the listing?
If you need a little inspiration when listing an item, search for similar items. That way you can see how others have listed theirs.
8. Keep an eye out for eBay Free Listing Days and Special Promotions
If you can save a little bit of money then all is well in the world.
9. Ensure your Listings are Spelled Correctly and use the correct Grammar
Ensuring that your listing is both spelled correctly and uses the correct grammar can mean the difference between receiving a bid or a customer walking away. There is a spell check facility on the listing page which will at least help with the spelling side of things.
10. Communicate with your Customer
When your item has been sold, be sure to contact your customer to let them know when you will be posting the item. When the item has been posted, be sure to confirm the item has been posted and provide tracking information to the customer.
